Swedish news text feels harder than everyday Swedish, and learners usually blame themselves. The real reason is friendlier: news Swedish is a register, a costume the language puts on, built from a surprisingly small set of words and habits that textbooks rarely teach because dialogue about buying coffee never needs them.

The machinery of the state
Swedish news is full of institutions doing institutional things. These eight words carry half of every domestic story:

Bonus habit: Swedish loves naming agencies literally. Skatteverket is the tax agency, Folkhälsomyndigheten is the public health agency. Read the parts and the name explains itself.
The reporting verbs
Journalists almost never write säger twice. They rotate a small family of verbs that all mean some flavour of "said", and each one quietly tells you how sure the information is. uppger means states or reports. enligt means according to, and it is doing source-citing work in nearly every article. framgår av means is shown by, usually by a document. bekräftar means confirms, and misstänks means is suspected, which is a claim, not a fact. Once you see these as the article's footnotes, you start reading Swedish news the way Swedes do: noticing who says so.
The crime ladder
Crime reporting uses a strict ladder of words. Textbooks teach none of them. News uses all of them, weekly. One word sits outside the ladder: misstänkt, a suspect, is what the person is called through the whole process, from the first article to the verdict. The ladder itself is the sequence of things that happen to the misstänkt:

The courts have their own pair worth knowing: tingsrätten is the district court where cases start, and hovrätten is the court of appeal. When a story says domen överklagas, the verdict is being appealed, and the story will come back in a few months.
Compounds: read them from the back
The scariest news words are usually just two ordinary words holding hands. Swedish compounds put the main thing last, so read from the back: bostadsbrist is a brist (shortage) of bostäder (housing). vårdköer are queues, for care. arbetsmarknadsminister is a minister, for the labour market. The long word is not a new word. It is a small phrase wearing a trench coat.
Headline grammar
Headlines compress. Two habits do most of the compressing. First, the passive s-form: utreds means is being investigated, stoppas is being stopped, höjs is being raised. Nobody is named, which is exactly the point. Second, dropped small words: Man häktad efter brand is a full sentence in headline Swedish. The en and the blev are gone, and once you expect that, the telegram style stops feeling like broken Swedish.
How to actually learn them
Not from this list. A list is a map, and you learn the city by walking it. These words stick because they come back every single day, so the method is simply to read a little news at a level you can survive, daily.
